Julie Mehretu is
an American artist born in Ethiopia and living & working in New York. Her prints & paintings are large scale, and built up and layered over time using thick paint,
and other media. Mehretu’s images seem to exhibit abstracted cities and maps.
“Her works engage the history of nonobjective art—from Constructivism to
Futurism—posing contemporary questions about the relationship between utopian
impulses and abstractions” (Art21).
